I read an interview with the creator, and (if I remember correctly) he got the idea for WALL-E while at an Oakland Athletics game. He had a pair of binoculars, and due to a boring game I guess, he stared at them from the front and BAM!!! The WALL-E look was born. So, his head/eyes are just a pair of binoculars. The animation was very well done, but I couldn't help wondering about the merchandising as we watched the movie.
