The Voyage Home
April and I decided that, before the baby arrives, it would be nice to travel home to visit the family. We left yesterday, arrived in St. Louis, MO last night. We travel using Southwest, and it is clear to me that the fares are cheep because the employ pilots who must have finished at the bottom of their class. Landings were rough.

Last night we stayed with April’s friend from college, Laura. She even made us dinner (thanks again Laura). Today, we travel to Jeff City, MO to see April’s mother and step-father, and Friday we are going to swing by Columbia, MO to see some friends and catch-up with our old graduate school lab peoples. We’ll make it to Illinois on Sunday to see my fam. Right now, we’re still in St. Louis sitting and waiting for a friend at a St. Louis Bread Co, (Panera to anybody not from St. Louis). Oh how we have missed you, cinnamon crunch bagel.
Oh…..those are my FAV! Eat one for me a wave to Altamont if you happen to drive by!
Matt,
Should have told me that you two were planning this. I could have made the time to come down for the weekend to see you two. If Mom knew she has not told me. Panera Bread never have I had, though I know many people to love them.
Cinammon crunch is rubbish - asiago cheese, mmmm. Everything with cream cheese. The British, and Australians for that matter, just don’t get bagels.
I’m going to have to agree with the asiago cheese bagels. Those are the best. People always assume that I’m some kind of bagel snob after growing up in NY, but it would be hard to beat the asiago. Brugger’s Bagels on the other hand…I wouldn’t be too upset if those places closed.
Do you guys really not have Panera in California? I thought they were national now. I know they’ve opened up a LOT of stores in NY, and I’ve heard that North Carolina has its share of locations too.
Hey Joseph,
I thought I told you? If not, I extremely apologize!!!! Mom has known since before you were coming down. I will be home sunday through wednesday if you happen to find some time to come down.
Jason,
In the bay area, the closest Penara is about 40 miles away and I would have to drive through San Francisco to get there. The other option would be an hour train ride. Either way, Penara is good, but not that good.
P.S. - I have never tried the asiago cheese bagel. Sounds like I’m seriously missing out!
i promise that Southwest doesn’t employ the worst pilots…actually people are trying to get there like hot cakes - the pilot must have had a bad day! =) remember Pat is a pilot?!?!?! he’s been trying to get on with southwest - and then the price of oil just ruined his chances….for now anyways! LOL hoping to get on with them and move back to Chicago one day!
glad you had a nice trip home! =)
