Cold-Blah
I have somehow managed to contract a cold. I’m wondering if I should blame the woman at the supermarket who I heard talking to people about her pneumonia but then came and stood thisclose to me while I was looking at something (I tried to discretely back away). I was even wearing Jocelyn in her carrier at the time. I know you need to do your grocery shopping even if you’re sick, but maybe you could try not to breathe on people, especially not people with babies. I’m not a germophobe. Getting sick is actually good for your immune system, if you’re an adult. So far Jocelyn seems more or less fine, maybe a little runny nose. I’m glad I’m still breastfeeding because she should be getting antibodies from me for whatever it is I have. But I feel pretty much like crap right now. I tried to nap with Jocelyn earlier but didn’t rest well. Of course Jocelyn seems extra-cranky today (though it’s probably just my perception). I’m not sure what cold medicines are safe to take (though I could pretty easily find out). I’m sticking to motrin, which I know is safe, and lots of hot tea. The inability to get a full night’s sleep is probably not real great for my immune system. Time for some more tea and vitamin C.
I hear you! When I had to take Zach to the Doctors for his 8 week check up this lady who was coughing and spluttering all over the place came up to Zach in his pram and started smiling and playing with him. I politely told her that I didn’t want her to touch him as she was obviously sick and he wasn’t. She was well unimpressed, but at least I went home with a healthy child. I mean, hello honey! you are at the doctors because you are sick, don’t touch my kid!
Hope you feel better soon.
Sinead: That’s terrible. Our pediatricians office has a great policy, they have separate waiting rooms for sick and well patients. That way we don’t have to worry about cross contamination so much. I broke down and used some nasal spray that should be safe, mainly because I could not breathe through my nose at all, which makes sleeping tricky!
I know it isn’t always realistic, but people should really stay home when they are sick. I actually wore one of those sexy masks when I knew I had pneumonia and was traveling home from the doc on the bus. This had an unforeseen benefit of not having to share my seat on the bus. Score. I should wear one more often.
Hi April,
I was told I could use Otrivin whilst breatfeeding but the doctor recommended that I use it after I breastfed instead of before, just to minimise any risk to Zach. That stuff is a godsend!
Your pediatricians office sounds great! What a great idea. I try not to let Zach play with toys at the doctors office. It would be so much easier if there was a healthy room where he could play with them.
Get better soon.
Hope you start feeling better soon.
